"Eat Smart, Move More!"

ISCP & INDI Eat Smart, Move More! Information Booklet

New research shows that 1 in 4 seven-year-old children in Ireland are either overweight or obese. To support parents and health professionals, members of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) and the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (INDI) launched a comprehensive information booklet entitled Eat Smart, Move More! in April 2009.

Eat Smart, Move More! guides parents through tips to make simple practical changes to a child’s diet and activity levels through a sensitive family-based approach.  The booklet outlines tips for exercise and a balanced, healthy diet for all children in order to promote good health both now and in later life.

The theme of Eat Smart, Move More! is based around childhood nutrition and physical activity, where an education booklet for parents and children was produced to guide parents in making changes to their children's diet and physical activity levels. It will answer questions that parents often ask themselves and give lots of tips to make your child healthier now and for the future.

This comprehensive information booklet will guide parents in making changes to their children's diet and physical activity levels. It will answer questions that parents often ask themselves and give lots of tips to make your child healthier now and for the future.

The ISCP and the INDI are delighted to announce that SuperValu have come on board to assist with the Eat Smart, Move More! Campaign.

The aim of this project was to provide a first-step resource for parents who may be worried that their child is overweight and at risk of obesity.  Recent research tells us that 1 in 4 children in Ireland are either overweight or obese.  This is a unique opportunity for both professions to come together to highlight their role in this topical area of health promotion.

The "Eat Smart, Move More!"information booklet was made available at participating SuperValu stores throughout Ireland in April 2009 where there was a Chartered Physiotherapist and Dietitian in attendance to answer any queries or concerns parents had regarding how they can develop good eating and exercise habits.

As part of the Eat Smart, Move More! campaign a radio advertisement was run (see times it will be aired) on Today FM, commencing on Monday 20th April 2009.
